Razan Dennawi has spent most of her life curious about how different the world would be if the Gulf War hadn’t happened, or if her family just stayed in Lebanon instead of coming to America. In the summer of 1989, she went along with her family on a trip to Lebanon to visit family on her father’s side. A week later the Gulf War broke out.
She grew up in a changing environment that shaped her into the artist she is today. Her work addresses reality as well as alternate realities that originate from dreams. Her works are experiments, a brainstorming of ideas, without a definitive end. This work takes her into an alternate reality that she has created. Through her work she intends for the viewer to find serenity and feel a dreamlike bliss that is experienced as if they are in the work itself.
